報(bào) 告 人: Ilay Turkmen

報(bào)告時(shí)間:2025年11月4日,周二下午15:00-16:00

報(bào)告地點(diǎn):國(guó)際教育學(xué)院6140教室

報(bào)告人及內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)介:

Ilay Turkmen is a PhD candidate in Food & Nutritional Sciences at the University of Reading, researching how dietary polyphenols influence gut microbiota and neurotransmitter pathways, with implications for mood, cognition, and anxiety-related behaviours. With an academic background in bioengineering (BSc, Ege University) and regenerative medicine (MSc studies, AYB University), she has also gained extensive laboratory and clinical experience, including tissue handling and biochemistry. Professionally, Ilay served as Laboratory Director at ENCON Environmental Laboratory in Turkey, managing regulatory projects and staff. She also has teaching experience as a laboratory demonstrator in the UK.

In this report, Ilay Turkmen will explore how dietary polyphenols interact with the gut microbiome and neurotransmitter pathways to influence brain function and behaviour. The presentation will summarise key methodologies, including microbiota profiling, molecular and biochemical assays, and highlight findings from her doctoral research alongside related literature. It will also discuss the translational relevance of this work to the food and nutrition industries, with attention to product development, regulatory considerations, and evidence standards. In addition, Ilay will reflect on her teaching experiences and propose opportunities for collaboration between the University of Reading and partner institutions.
